How can I expand the ESS system and what limitations are there?

Answer:

The ESS system can be built in stages where the smallest number of battery modules is 2 in a stack, which can later be expanded to 3, 4, and 5 modules in a stack. This means that it's possible to increase the storage capacity from 7.1 kWh to 14.2 kWh. The charging and discharging power are also scalable and are controlled by the number of ESOs installed in the ESS Power Case. With 1 ESO and 2 battery modules, the maximum power is 2 kW, whereas with 2 ESOs and 5 battery modules, it is 10 kW.

It's worth noting that if an older battery is expanded with a new battery cell, the degraded capacity of the older battery will also limit the capacity of the new battery cell.

Example:

You purchase an ESS system with two battery modules one year, and two years later, you want to expand the system with an additional two battery modules. The capacity of the two original battery modules, which have been running for two years, will have decreased. This limitation will then apply to the entire system, including the two new modules.

Therefore, our recommendation is not to expand a battery that is older than 2 years, but instead to add a new battery stack connected to the same DC grid.
