What is an ESO?

Answer:

ESO (Energy Storage Optimizer) is Ferroamp's battery control unit in the EnergyHub system.

  • The ESO manages and integrates batteries into the DC network. It serves as the bridge between the EnergyHub and the battery's BMS (Battery Management System).

  • The ESO communicates with the EnergyHub via the DC network and with the BMS through the BMS's communication protocol using a communication cable.

  • The ESO is also a bidirectional DC/DC converter that converts the voltage from the battery's voltage level to 760 V, which is the voltage in the DC network of the EnergyHub system. It also partially controls the charging and discharging power, where an ESO can convert a maximum of 6 kW or 9.5 A. The charging and discharging power is therefore also controlled by the battery modules' current and voltage levels, as well as by the BMS.
