What are the benefits of PowerShare?

Answer:

By having each EnergyHub measure its respective grid connection, we can control the distribution of electricity intelligently to where the demand is highest.

By sharing energy, we increase self-consumption and reduce the need to sell as much electricity to the grid, only to buy it back at a higher price later. We can also share battery capacity between multiple properties, thus utilizing the battery more efficiently. This significantly reduces the payback period of the investment. This also means that houses without suitable roof areas for solar power production can still benefit from panels installed on neighboring houses.

Example:

In a housing association with three buildings, where two of the buildings have east-west roofs obscured by trees, and the third building has a large south-facing roof, all residents in the three buildings can benefit from solar power, even though the panels are only installed on one of the buildings.

This provides:

  • All members of the housing association an incentive for the investment.
  • A shorter payback period as more electricity is used internally, rather than selling electricity to the grid from one building and then buying it back for the other two buildings.
