Good to know about SSOs

Below are various useful pieces of information about SSOs to facilitate installation for trained electricians installing Ferroamp products.

The DC cable between the SSO and EnergyHub, like the entire Ferroamp DC network, is safety-grounded, and the positive and negative poles do not need to be separated. The cable from the solar panels to the SSO should still be separated as usual.

Solar panels should never be connected to the SSO when the DC network is live. Either the EnergyHub system should be turned off, or the DC breaker in the DC distribution should be open. Never rely solely on power isolation components; always perform a control measurement before starting work.

SSOs must be mounted and installed vertically. The wall the SSOs are installed on should withstand a temperature of 70 degrees and support a weight of at least 10 kg. Ferroamp advises against installing SSOs in direct sunlight. You can read more about SSO placement here.

You can only use the included MC4 connectors that come with the solar string optimizer (SSO) to connect the solar string to the SSO.

The DC network connection on the SSO is dimensioned for a maximum cable cross-section of 4 mm². The required dimension for the installation depends on the distance between the SSO and the EnergyHub, as well as the cable size between the EnergyHub and the DC distribution where the SSO is connected. The voltage drop between the SSO and EnergyHub must not exceed 2%.

The manual for Ferroamp's solar string optimizer is available for download, along with manuals and datasheets for all Ferroamp products, on our download page, which you can find here.
