What does Self Consumption mean and what should I think about when setting the different parameters?

Answer:

Self Consumption is used in order to maximize the self-consumption of self-produced solar power. In this operating mode the system can allow the battery to charge with electricity produced via the system's SSO:s (Solar String Optimizers). Below you can see an example of how you set the parameters for Self Consumption

Example:

Once you have found your way to System configuration in EnergyCloud, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Self Consumption in the menue below Operation settings in the left window
  2. Choose the battery settings which are recommended for your battery in Battery Wizzard
  3. Set the Import Theshold and Export Threshold.

Import Threshold states how much power is allowed to be imported/bought from the power grid before discharging the battery.

    - Export Theshold states how much power is allowed to be exported/sold to the power grid before charging the battery.

  4. With the settings that are shown above, the system will:

    1. Aim to not exporting electricity to the power grid since the Export Threshold is set to 0 W. All excess electricity will be prioritized to charging the battery until fully charged.

    2. Allow importing up to 2 kW from the power grid since the Import Threshold is set to 2000 W. If the imported power from the power grid exceeds 2 kW, the battery will be discharged to cover this. This means that if the excess production is 3 kW, the battery will be charged with 3 kW. If the system is importing 5 kW from the power grid, the battery will discharge with 3 kW.

RECOMMENDATION: In order to maximize self-consumption, both Import Threshold and Export Threshold can be set to 0 W. This means that the battery will charge when there is an excess production and disharge when the self-produced power is not enough to cover the consumption.

NOTE! The system will export power to the power grid if the excess production is higher than the battery's Charge Reference and it will export power to the power grid when the battery is fully charged.

NOTE! If the solar power isn't produced in the Ferroamp-system and only charging by solar power is wanted, the operating mode can be set to Peak Shaving with Import Threshold set to 0kW. This means that the battery will start charging when the system starts exporting from the facility.

NOTE! Make sure that the orrect battery is chosen in the Battery Wizard. The battery will never be able to charge or discharge more than what it is designed for, but if the Discharge Reference and Charge Reference are set lower than they should be then this will limit the battery.
